Precisely hits the accelerator for mainframe modernisation

Precisely has hit the accelerator for customers who are doing mainframe modernisation to AWS. As part of an extended collaboration, it has released new enhancements to Precisely Connect.

These will allow customers to do real-time data replication from mainframes to Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3). As a result, data gets to the cloud platform much faster, giving analytics and AI teams immediate access to data.

Marianne Roling, SVP, global alliances and channel sales, Precisely, said, “Enterprises around the world continue to rely on Precisely to bridge the gap between their legacy mainframe systems and modern cloud environments.

“This expanded collaboration with AWS demonstrates our shared commitment to simplifying modernisation and helping customers make trusted data available for analytics, machine learning, and AI at scale.

Why does this matter?

Despite claims to the contrary, the mainframe market continues to grow and expand. An August 2025 report by Market Research Future estimated the mainframe market at $5.308bn. It claims that the market will continue to grow by a CAGR of 5.27% between 2025 and 2035.

Banking, insurance, healthcare, government, aviation and retail are the industries still buying and using them with no evidence that they are looking to cut spending. However, all those industries want to take advantage of technologies on other platforms, such as the cloud. That has driven the growth of cloud modernisation strategies.

Precisely has been working with AWS for several years to help organisations move mainframe application workloads to the cloud. The challenge for many organisations is that moving data requires multiple steps. Data is extracted and then goes through a set of transformations to make it easier to ingest into cloud-based systems. Moving the data to the cloud means compressing and uncompressing it due to the size of the files.

All of this takes time, adds cost and reduces the ability of organisations to maximise their data in real time.

Precisely Connect now allows organisations to streamline that data movement so that it goes directly from the mainframe in real-time. This allows the data streams to fit into available bandwidth without overwhelming the network. It also allows data transformation to occur as the data is brought into the cloud.

What benefits is Precisely claiming?

Precisely lists four key benefits that the latest updates to Precisely Connect will deliver to customers. They are:

  • Streamlined modernisation: Seamlessly move mainframe data directly to Amazon S3 data lakes and analytics platforms.
  • Speed and efficiency: Eliminate intermediary steps for faster, more reliable replication.
  • Simplicity: Reduce maintenance overhead and integration complexity.
  • AI and analytics readiness: Empower downstream AWS workloads, including analytics, AI, and machine learning.

In the announcement, it goes on to say: “This announcement builds upon Precisely’s long-standing commitment to helping enterprises achieve data integrity across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. The continued collaboration between Precisely and AWS underscores both organisations’ dedication to helping customers modernise with confidence.”

Enterprise Times: What does this mean?

Markets and Markets puts the mainframe modernisation market at $8.39bn in 2025. By 2030, it is expected to grow to $13.34gn, a CAGR of 9.7%. There are multiple reasons for this, ranging from re-platforming to access to new applications and technologies. The region seeing the most growth is North America, followed by Europe, although Asia Pacific is expected to grow faster than the rest of the market.

Information Services Group (ISG) says that AWS holds a clear lead over other cloud platforms. It should come as no surprise, therefore, that it has extended its agreement with Precisely in this area. This is a match that works for both companies. Precisely has a highly trusted reputation in the IBM mainframe market, and AWS has the tools that end-users want access to.

This has been a good year for Precisely in terms of new and extended deals with partners. It has also added significant amounts of AI-enablement to its solutions. Perhaps the only surprise in this announcement is that it doesn’t offer up any new AI tooling for Precisely Connect.
