Shredded cheese recall
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall for various shredded cheeses made by Great Lakes Cheese Co. that could have metal fragments in the dairy product.
The cheese products are sold under private store-brand labels at many retailers, including Target, Walmart and Aldi.
The recall is for more than 260,000 cases of shredded cheese sold in 31 states and Puerto Rico, including Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois.
The bag of shredded cheese includes low-moisture part-skim mozzarella, Italian Style and Italian Style blend, pizza style blend, mozzarella and provolone blend and mozzarella and parmesan blend.
The recall is a Class II, meaning that the product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote,” according to the FDA’s website.
