Wider Old Cutler Trail pedestrian and bike bridge on the way

A major infrastructure project to improve mobility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists along the Old Cutler Trail in South Dade is expected to be completed by the summer of 2026, according to a news release.

The Snowden Pedestrian Bridge is being constructed just north of Southwest 174th Street over the Cutler Drain Canal (C-100), replacing an existing bridge that has a narrow pedestrian walkway. The new bridge will be 12 feet wide, allowing for two-way pedestrian and cyclist traffic.

The project will include several improvements other than the bridge, such as enhanced lighting along the trail and bridge, improved signage and pavement markings, updated drainage systems to manage stormwater runoff, and landscaping to enhance the area’s aesthetic appeal.

These changes are to improve overall connectivity and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists as well as encourage active lifestyles among residents.

Miami-Dade County partnered with the Village of Palmetto Bay to celebrate the groundbreaking of the bridge on Nov. 17. Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, District 8 county Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, Village of Palmetto Bay Vice Mayor Mark Merwitzer and Department of Transportation and Public Works Director and CEO Stacy Miller attended the event.

“Old Cutler Trail is one of our county’s most cherished community paths, along a historic and beautiful roadway, used every day by families, students, commuters, runners, and cyclists,” Ms. Levine Cava said. “This new, wider pedestrian bridge will ease congestion, improve safety, and create a more comfortable, accessible experience for everyone who relies on this trail, whether they’re walking, biking, pushing a stroller, or heading to work or school.”
