Minnesota approved to host Expo 2031
Something big is growing in Dakota County and it’s bringing big bucks and jobs along with it.
Minnesota just got federal approval to host Expo 2031 USA, an international horticultural exposition similar to the World’s Fair.
It’s expected to bring in millions of visitors and tourism dollars to the area over 6 months, from May through October.
Dakota County went after the event, which is expected to bring thousands of jobs in construction and hospitality, but at no cost to taxpayers.
“Why taxpayers should pay dollars here when they may not even participate, visit it,” Dakota County Commissioner Bill Droste said. “We do not think that’s a good ask first of all, or reasonable to tax people.”
We’ve learned the event is seeking land near Spring Lake Park Reserve in Dakota County.
