Counties under Winter Weather Advisory expands

The National Weather Service has expanded its Winter Weather Advisory ahead of Monday’s expected wintry mix, adding Marion, Boone, Searcy and Newton counties in Arkansas, as well as all of southern Missouri.
The advisory now covers all of north-central Arkansas and southern Missouri and will remain in effect until 6 Tuesday morning. Forecasters say mixed precipitation will begin around midday Monday, with pockets of sleet, freezing rain and light snow possible through the evening hours. A narrow band of light snow could pass over the region after dark, though most winter weather chances are expected to diminish before midnight.

All of these conditions conditions could impact travel Monday according to NWS meteorologist Joe Goudsward.

Snow and sleet totals are expected to remain light, generally a few tenths of an inch, while ice accumulations could range from a light glaze to one tenth of an inch. With temperatures staying below freezing and wind chills in the teens, even minor icing could create hazardous travel conditions.

The National Weather Service continues to urge drivers to use caution, particularly on elevated roadways and untreated surfaces.
