
A man was killed in a fire Monday evening in Fairmont, according to the city’s police department.
First responders were called to the fire on the 300 block of South Park Street around 4:42 p.m. 911 callers said the home was occupied at the time of the fire.
When officers got to the scene, they saw flames in the home’s basement and tried to put out the fire until fire crews arrived.
A 43-year-old man was pronounced deceased; his identity has not yet been released. A 41-year-old man was brought to the hospital for smoke inhalation and burns and has since been released.
Authorities say four officers were treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation.
While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the public is urged to stay clear of the area while authorities work to determine what happened. The State Fire Marshal is assisting in the investigation.
