Sen. Alice Mann, DFL-Edina, will not campaign for reelection in 2026, she announced on Monday.
Mann was first elected to the Minnesota House in 2018, representing Lakeville and Burnsville, before moving to Edina and being elected to the Senate in 2022.
She was the chief author on the 2023 bill creating Minnesota’s paid family and medical leave program, something she touts among her top accomplishments at the Capitol. Mann, an emergency room physician by trade, also authored bills to establish free breast cancer screening and to ban various forms of non-compete clauses.
“It has been an immense honor to serve my community in the legislature,” Mann said in a statement. “I came to the Capitol to make health care more affordable, strengthen public health for all Minnesotans, and pass policies like Paid Leave that will help working families build stability and thrive. While that work is never done, I am proud of the real progress we have made in Minnesota. As I step away when my term ends, I am profoundly grateful for the trust my community placed in me and the chance to serve the state I love and afforded me my American Dream.”
Turnover at the Capitol
Mann joins a growing list of legislators to announce their current term will be their last.
In the Senate, Republicans Jeremy Miller and Rich Draheim and Democrats Sandy Pappas, Ann Rest and Steve Cwodzinski have all said they will not seek reelection. Over in the House, DFL Rep. Sandra Feist is retiring, and GOP Rep. Elliott Engen has announced a run for state auditor.
Meanwhile, a special election will be held to fill the House seat left vacant by St. Paul Mayor-elect Kaohly Her.
All 134 House seats and 67 Senate seats will be on the ballot during the Nov. 3, 2026, general election.
