Gallery: Snow Covers Bloomington Saturday Night

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — November 29, 2025

After a couple of days of forecasts and radar watching, Bloomington’s second snow of the fall season swept into the city Saturday night in a sudden burst, briefly turning streets white in a matter of minutes.

Indiana Department of Transportation workers could be heard talking over the radio outside the city about snow already falling to the west in Spencer and Gosport, but by then flakes were coming down in Bloomington as well. Farther west, a multi-vehicle pileup on Interstate 70 shut down the highway for several hours, and made national news.

Monroe County and the surrounding area didn’t escape the storm without problems.

Here’s what we know:

A two-vehicle crash was reported at Rhorer Road and Walnut Pike on the city’s south side. On the Indiana 37 cutoff from I-69 north of town, a car struck a guardrail and slid into a ditch. South of the city, on a winding stretch of Indiana 446 near Monroe Lake, a multi-vehicle collision closed the highway; The Bloomingtonian has requested additional details from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and will update this story when more information becomes available.

And here’s what we saw:

In Bloomington, life continued in fits and starts as the snow intensified. Some residents ducked into downtown bars while others hurried along the sidewalks with takeout bags. A man stood on Kirkwood Avenue in an emergency poncho as heavy snow blew past. People hauling suitcases trudged up and down South Walnut Street, and a few unhoused residents huddled against the cold at the downtown bus station.

Within a couple of hours, the snow eased. The city had pre-treated some main streets ahead of the storm, and snowplow drivers were out across Bloomington trying to catch up as tire tracks carved dark paths through the fresh accumulation.

By late evening, holiday lights, car headlights and traffic signals glowed through the lingering flurries, marking the end of another fall season reminder that winter is on its way.
