Flurries, Freezing Temps on the Way; Monday Highs May Not Reach Freezing

A blast of much colder air is set to move into Arkansas this weekend, bringing the first chances for winter weather and holding temperatures well below normal through much of next week, according to the National Weather Service office in Little Rock.Light snow or flurries will be possible from Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning, mainly across north and northeast Arkansas. No accumulation is expected, but the stronger cold front arriving Saturday will drop temperatures sharply statewide.

the front, very cold air will settle in, sending wind chills into the lower teens Sunday morning and again Monday morning. Forecasters say high temperatures on Monday will struggle to climb above 32 degrees across the northern half of the state.

Another round of winter weather is possible Monday into Monday night. A cold rain may transition to light freezing rain across portions of southwest, central, western and north-central Arkansas Monday evening through early Tuesday morning. Northern and northeast Arkansas can expect mainly light snow from Monday evening into Tuesday morning.

At this time, only minor travel impacts are anticipated, with little accumulation of snow or freezing rain expected.

Forecasters note that confidence in the exact timing and placement of cold air and moisture remains low, as forecast models continue to struggle with details three to four days out. KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot will continue to monitor the latest forecast information.
