
BLOOMSBURG – A Mahanoy City man was released from the Columbia County lockup Tuesday as the most serious charge against him in a Bloomsburg shooting was dropped.
Samuel Charles Evans, 19, of Mahanoy City, is accused of shooting a 16-year-old boy in the 300 block of East Street in Bloomsburg.
He was charged with criminal homicide, felony aggravated assault, firearms not to be carried without a license, misdemeanor reckless endangerment, among other charges.
At a preliminary hearing Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Russell Lawton, authorities withdrew a charge of criminal homicide while the remainder where held for court.
Evans was released on $500,000 unsecured bail.
The case will move to the Columbia County Courthouse pending action there.
