The Edina Police Department is advising residents to stay vigilant and safe this holiday season, as they believe residents are being targeted for theft.
In an announcement on Wednesday, police with the city of Edina encouraged residents to “lock around the clock,” stating detectives believed an organized group was targeting neighborhoods in Edina for burglaries of expensive items such as jewelry, high-end goods and safes.
For additional security, police advised residents to take additional security steps, including:
Installing security alarms
Have an alarm monitoring company set up to contact the police immediately upon a break-in
Installing security lights and cameras, which can be monitored on your phone
Make sure all windows and doors are locked before leaving the house
Update all insurance policies
Call 952-826-1610 to notify Edina dispatch that you will be away for an extended period, so officers can check your property periodically for suspicious activity.
Tell neighbors if you will be gone for a long time, so they can keep an eye out for intruders.
If you see something, say something by calling 911 to report suspicious activity.
