Doma Protocol mainnet launched by D3 Global
D3 Global launched their Doma Protocol mainnet. Fred Hsu has been very excited about this launch as he sees this as the true next step for domain names. If Fred pulls this off and adoption is strong it will be revolutionary. I know we chat on X all the time and many are interested, seem to be younger investors, not all but there is a strong youth movement there. Others who are not old but are seasoned like an Elliot Silver do not seem to be as enthused although not negative.
The key will be education in simple terms that anyone can understand. I have always believed the only thing that is constant is change. The Internet will evolve the domain industry will evolve. Who will have the secret sauce? That’s the mystery. Fred is a very smart man, knows domain names inside and out and could very well be leading the company that unlocks exponential potential.
Fred Hsu, CEO of D3, summarized the shift:
“Premium domains can now transition from illiquid assets to modern financial instruments without compromising their utility. This is the internet’s first real RWA revolution. This is the financial activation of the internet’s base layer.”
From the Doma blog:
Today marks a turning point for the internet.
We are proud to announce that Doma Protocol mainnet is officially live, introducing the world’s first DNS-compliant blockchain purpose-built for tokenizing internet domain names and utilizing them as programmable assets. This is the first time in history that DNS domains can be tokenized, traded, and programmable without sacrificing their underlying internet utility.
Domains have always been one of the internet’s most valuable asset classes:
But until now, domains behaved like early real estate. They are valuable, but painfully illiquid. You either held the domain or sold it.
Doma changes this by introducing the DomainFi standard. DomainFi experience includes:
All features are live on start.doma.xyz.
Tokenization is a mechanism that essentially converts an asset into tradable tokens. It has been already used to convert diverse assets such as artwork and real estate into digital tokens. Now, with Doma, this same mechanism can be applied to the Internet’s naming layer.
The mainnet launch includes the debut of the first flagship tokenized domains:
These assets are now backed by ERC-20 liquidity pools on Doma.
Tokenized ownership of top-tier domains used to be impossible. Now any trader, investor, or DeFi participant can own premium domains that used to be out of reach. This is the first real-world demonstration of DomainFi.
We have built partnerships with some of the biggest registrars in the world:
These are established players in the global DNS ecosystem, collectively representing over 30 million domains which are now capable of being discovered, tokenized, and used onchain.
The Doma mainnet connects the DNS world to major crypto ecosystems. Your domains can be tokenized and used as assets in DeFi applications, including decentralized exchanges (DEX). A DEX is an onchain marketplace that lets users buy and sell digital assets instantly without creating an exchange account.
With Doma, these tokenized domains can now operate inside multi-billion dollar ecosystems such as Base, Avalanche, and Solana. In the last 24 hours alone:
