The program, “The Old Language of the Ozarks,” will be presented by Danette Cargill House, a seventh-generation Ozarkian and traditional Ozarks storyteller. Her family settled in Ozark County, Missouri, in 1838, and she now shares that heritage as a graduate of the Missouri Arts Council’s Traditional Arts Program.
KTLO News spoke with society member Sonny Sharp, who gives details on the event.

House is a frequent performer at Ozark culture festivals, known for bringing regional history to life through stories, dialect, and audience participation. Her presentation will explore the roots of the Ozark dialect and how waves of immigration shaped the language still heard in the region today.
This will be the final Historical Society program of 2025, and the public is encouraged to arrive early for best seating.
