The St. Cloud Police Department said two people were injured after a man reportedly shot one and then assaulted another who attempted to intervene.
Police said officers were called to the 800 block of 8th Avenue South around 4:20 a.m. Sunday for a reported shooting.
When they arrived, officers said they found two injured people.
According to police, 31-year-old Austin Gerads of St. Cloud is believed to have shot a 44-year-old St. Cloud resident twice and then assaulted a 55-year-old with an “object.” Police said the assault occurred after the 55-year-old attempted to assist the shooting victim.
Both were taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers said they later confronted Gerads, leading to a brief foot chase before he was taken into custody.
According to police, all three individuals live together at the same address where the shooting took place. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
