A compost pile in Big Lake caught fire Saturday morning; fire crews are requesting the community stay away from the area.
According to the Big Lake Police Department, the fire was first reported around 8 a.m. at the city’s Public Works facility on 198th Avenue.
The Big Lake Fire Department, alongside other fire departments from neighboring communities, responded to the call to help put out the fire.

As of 10:30 a.m., the Big Lake Fire Department said they, along with other first responders, had contained the fire to a single compost pile and were working to prevent any further spread.
At this time, no injuries or damage to property have been reported.
While the public is not in danger, the fire and police departments are asking residents to avoid the area.
