
The Minneapolis City Council has approved a $475,000 settlement with the family of Leneal Frazier.

Frazier’s family sued the city after he was hit and killed by an MPD squad during a high-speed chase in 2021.

Former officer Brian Cummings was driving around 90 mph through a residential neighborhood in north Minneapolis when he hit Frazier’s SUV. Cummings pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular homicide and was sentenced to nine months in the Hennepin County workhouse.

James Jeremiah Jones-Drain, the suspect Cummings was pursuing, was initially charged with one count of fleeing a peace officer, which resulted in death, and two counts of theft. Those charges were later dismissed due to “an inability to prove all of the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.”
