Jordan Collins, 38, is requesting a venue change for his upcoming murder trial in Anoka County, where he is accused of killing his 16-year-old son, Jordan “Manny” Collins Jr.
Court records show a motion was filed on Wednesday requesting the change in venue, with Collins’ defense team claiming a fair trial could not take place in Anoka County due to media coverage of his alleged crimes.
In addition to media coverage, the motion also cites social media posts by Collins’ family members, arguing that they made incriminating allegations and created a bias against him.
Collin’s next court date is an omnibus hearing scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday.
Jordan Collins was arrested on July 7, months after his son, 16-year-old Jordan “Manny” Collins Jr., was declared missing in May.
At the time, Jordan claimed his son had gone to visit his mother
Following a search at the Anoka County Landfill, Manny’s body was discovered by investigators; an autopsy later found there was “evidence of decapitation by knife” and classified his death as a homicide.
Police previously visited Jordan’s apartment before Manny’s body was found.
During that search, court documents state police officers found items with stains appearing to be blood in garbage cans in a living room closet. In addition, police say they also found multiple butcher and hunting-style knives in a bedroom closet, as well as a mattress that had pieces missing from it on the bedroom floor. Under it, the document states that pieces of carpet and carpet padding were missing.
Blood stains found on items during the search two days beforehand matched Manny’s DNA. This resulted in more testing inside the apartment, where blood was found on the wall of a bedroom.
That blood was also confirmed to be Manny’s. Jordan claimed the blood was his, though testing did not find any of his blood in his apartment, according to court records.
