Man sentenced to prison for attacking students with knife, hammer on St. Olaf campus
A Chanhassen man was sentenced Monday for a 2022 attack at St. Olaf College in which he used a knife and hammer to assault students.
William Davis Schulenberg, now 23, was ordered by a Rice County judge to spend more than seven years (91 months) in prison.

Court documents state that Schulenberg climbed through a window into a party at a St. Olaf dormitory on May 1, 2022. Once inside, police say he started swinging a hammer and knife at his ex-girlfriend, who had a no-contact order against him.
Three other students then tried to intervene and were assaulted as well.
The victims’ injuries ranged from stab wounds and cuts to pain from being hit by the hammer.
Charging documents also state that one of the victims, who hosted the party, showed text messages from before the attack where Schulenberg asked to make his ex leave so he could come to the party. When the host denied his request, Schulenberg responded, “Actions have consequences.”
He pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree assault and one of first-degree assault back in August and will now head to St. Cloud to serve his sentence.
