A 41-year-old was killed in a crash after leading St. Cloud police on a pursuit Monday night.
According to the police department, an officer was patrolling University Drive near Killian Boulevard when he saw a vehicle going over 60 mph in a 30 mph zone.
The officer tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver accelerated and kept going, causing the officer to begin a pursuit.
The driver went west over the University Avenue Bridge, but then went into the eastbound lane, causing the officer to try to end the pursuit, police said.
He continued through a roundabout on Fifth Avenue and crashed into a parked truck and a light pole in a nearby parking lot. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
There was a man in the parked truck who was brought to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say that while the reason the man was fleeing is still under investigation, his driving status was canceled due to past conduct.
The intersection was temporarily closed while the light pole was being repaired.
