Izard County STEM students earn top honors at inaugural Conservation Summit

Eighteen students from the Izard County STEM School recently traveled to Hot Springs to compete in the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s 1st Annual Generational Conservation Summit, and 11 of them brought home top awards across multiple categories.
Keylon Gross and Whitley Smith won first place in Culinary, while Gage Nielsen earned third place in the High School Nature Center Design competition. Alex Millington and Britain Treat placed second in the High School IT Field Data Simulation event. Case Selph earned second place in Middle School Casting, and Rossi Morgan claimed first place in the Middle School Cadet Challenge. In the elementary division, Kountry Shields, Sadie Everett and Carleigh Selph finished third in STEM in Conservation. Payson Speake rounded out the team’s strong showing with a first-place finish in Entrepreneurship.

Izard County STEM High School and Izard County STEM Middle School are two of only 13 schools statewide recognized as Schools of Conservation Leadership. The district’s STEM Preschool and STEM Elementary are also in the process of earning the same designation, reflecting a continued commitment to environmental education and hands-on conservation learning.
