Mahanoy City borough to lease land to Little League; splits vote to hire police officer
MAHANOY CITY – Borough Council here is planning to lease two pieces of land near the Mahanoy City Little League field to the league.
Council approved a lease at Monday’s meeting, pending lease language details.
The two parcels encompass the Sixth Street Park adjacent to the Little League stadium and the woodlands between it and the former Mahanoy Township school.
In other business, borough council split in a vote to hire a police officer.
Council considered a motion to hire Frank Gallo as a full-time officer. Gallo is currently a full-time officer at the Mahanoy Area School District.
He was hired by a 2-1 vote. Michael Connolly and Thomas McCabe voted to hire Gallo while Rachel Zukas voted no.
John Hruniuk and Kathleen McKerns were absent.
Council also voted to move the North Schuylkill Landfill Association proceeds into two funds — $90,000 to the Blight Fund and $119,000 to the matching grant fund.
