According to the probable cause affidavit from the Izard County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded to an address on Arkansas Highway 177 near the Baxter County line where a witness said Heathcoat had shot at them.
One of the victims told the deputy Heathcoat fired approximately four shots, a few in the air and a few towards the three victims. The victim described the pistol Heathcoat used. The deputy was able to recover a spent shell casing at the scene.
While he was there, the deputy was informed an Arkansas State Trooper was at Heathcoat’s residence giving him verbal commands to come outside. The deputy went to that location and assisted in taking Heathcoat into custody.
Heathcoat told the deputy he only shot twice into the ground to get his point across that he would not be threatened. The deputy told Heathcoat what he had done was illegal and he was being arrested.
During an interview with investigators, Heathcoat confirmed the firearm matched the description given by the victim who talked to the deputy at the scene. He said one of the victims had threatened him with a knife a few days earlier.
Heathcoat is facing a felony charge of second degree unlawful discharge of a firearm from a vehicle. He is being held in the Izard County Jail with bond set at $20,000.
