“This is the second City Hall at this location. The first one was built sometime in the 1880s, and then demolished in 1924 to build this building,” says Matt Solomon, historic preservation officer for the city.
The guest list includes former mayors and pillars of the community.
Texarkana, TX, Mayor Bob Bruggeman said, “There’s a local business in town called Logan Electric. They’ve been in business since 1909. They’re located in downtown Texarkana.”
“We’ve invited the Phelps, the owners of the business, because Logan Electric did the electrical wiring in this building when it was built in 1925.”
They are inviting the public to participate in the celebration.
“It’s the public’s building and so it’s our citizens’ building,” says Mayor Bruggeman.
The city aims to demonstrate that City Hall is more than just a building.
“The building conveys who we are as a community and who we think we can become. Those early our early leaders and our early settlers that came to what would become Texarkana, founded Texarkana with the idea that it would become a grand community,” says Solomon.
“We now take that on our shoulders to continue to push the envelope forward and continue to establish a great community, and this building is part of that.”
