“Fire is a natural process that has shaped the Ozark landscape for thousands of years,” said Fenn Wimberly, the park’s fire management officer. “By using prescribed fire in a carefully planned and controlled way, we can reduce wildfire risk and protect communities.”
Located in Marion County, Buffalo Point includes historic Civilian Conservation Corps structures, modern park facilities, and popular recreation areas. Burns will help protect cabins, campgrounds, trails, and roads near State Highways 268 and 14, improving safety and visibility.
Beginning Nov. 17, the Buffalo Point Campground will offer primitive camping only to limit visitor impacts. Some temporary trail and road closures are expected.
The National Park Service coordinates prescribed fire efforts with state and local partners to ensure public and firefighter safety. More information is available at www.nps.gov/buff.
