Hillsborough Township Plans Tree Lighting Event With Santa on Dec. 5

Hillsborough Township will host its annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, Dec. 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Municipal Complex. Santa arrives shortly after 7 p.m. to light the tree.

Hot cocoa and cookies? They’re free while supplies last. Kids can meet holiday characters, drop off letters to Santa, and bring pajamas for the donation drive. Train rides and inflatables might run if the weather cooperates.

Food vendors will sell meals and snacks. Music, dancers, and a fire pit round out the lineup.

Residents can bring new pajamas to donate. The drive helps families who need clothing for their kids during the holidays.

Santa’s tree lighting ceremony serves as the main attraction. Children and their families watch as he flips the switch after his 7 p.m. arrival.

Holiday characters will pose for photos and chat with kids throughout the three-hour celebration at the Municipal Complex.

Train rides will circle the grounds if conditions allow, and the inflatables give children a chance to play and burn off some energy.

Letter drop-off stations let kids submit their wish lists straight to Santa. Parents can help younger children write and turn in their requests.

Multiple food trucks and vendors will set up around the complex, selling dinner, desserts, and seasonal treats.

The fire pit offers warmth as temperatures drop. Families can gather around the flames between activities.

Musical performances and dance groups will entertain crowds from the 5 p.m. start until the 8 p.m. conclusion, running without breaks.

The pajama drive supports local families who need help with clothing for children, and organizers request that all donations be new and unwrapped.

Hot cocoa distribution works on a first-come, first-served basis, and cookies will be handed out until they’re gone.

The Municipal Complex sits in the center of the township. Parking information and directions appear on the township website.

Weather conditions will decide whether outdoor activities like train rides and inflatables can proceed. Township staff will make decisions about these attractions on the day based on forecasts and conditions.

The celebration runs for three hours to give families flexibility in arrival times, so early arrivals at 5 p.m. can enjoy food and entertainment before Santa’s appearance two hours later.
