BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – November 10, 2025 – 9:27 a.m.

Law enforcement officers and highway crews are responding to multiple slide-offs and spinouts on area highways Monday morning as snow and freezing conditions make bridges and overpasses especially hazardous.

Shortly after 9 a.m., Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies reported at least one slide-off involving a truck pulling a skid steer that ended up facing the wrong direction near an interstate exit. A deputy radioed county dispatch asking that State Highway be contacted, saying “the bridges are super slick” and requesting sand for the area.

Indiana State Police troopers from the Bloomington post also reported vehicles off the road. One trooper advised dispatch he was out with a truck and trailer facing the wrong way near Walnut Creek on the southbound side, and later reported a separate vehicle that slid off the roadway after the driver “couldn’t drive in the snow.” The driver was reported to be OK.

INDOT Bloomington Subdistrict trucks have been making repeated passes on Interstate 69 and major routes, according to highway radio traffic. One highway worker reported having “69 looking pretty good” and said most of the ramps had been treated, while another said they had just reloaded with material and were heading back out on State Road 45 and other routes. However, a trooper monitoring conditions noted that a State Highway truck had come through “not with abrasives but with spray” and remained on scene waiting for additional treatment, underscoring that slick spots remain.

In neighboring Owen County, deputies reported several weather-related issues on State Road 43, including a vehicle off the roadway on private property and a temporary shutdown of both lanes on Whitehall Hill so a tow truck could safely recover a vehicle. A later radio update indicated the section of SR 43 from Stogsdill Road to the gas station at SR 48 had been reopened and was “clear.”

Authorities are urging drivers to slow down, leave extra space, and use extreme caution on bridges, overpasses, and hills as temperatures hover around freezing. Even where INDOT trucks have already spread salt or other material, deputies and troopers are still encountering black ice and slick spots, and additional slide-offs continue to be reported.
