Woman pays it forward to neighbor recovering from surgery

YOUNGSVILLE, La. (KLFY) — One woman gifted her neighbor who was struggling to recover from surgery $1,000.

Bob Giles with Giles Automotive allows someone in Acadiana to “Pay it Forward” each month, by surprising a stranger with an envelope of cash and the chance to give it to someone they know.

This month, Lauren Napier was chosen to pay it forward.

“In this envelope, there’s ten $100 bills,” Giles said. “And the rules are pretty simple, can’t be a relative and it has to be someone that you, we’ll go with you, can surprise right now.”

Napier wanted to surprise her neighbor, Lacie Hebert, who broke her hip and had surgery.

“She had issues with it, so now she’s back to working from home because of the two back-to-back surgeries,” Napier said. “She even had like a Go Fund Me to try to help with things. I couldn’t really do much. Again, I’m like, ‘I can babysit, like bring you some food, but I can’t.’ You know, like everybody is doing something.”

This was the perfect opportunity for Napier to do something financially for her friend.

“Oh my gosh,” Hebert said.

Giles handed Napier the envelope of cash.

“I’m gonna give this to you, so you can pay it forward,” Giles said. “Open it up. Count the money out.”

Hebert counted out $1,000.

“Oh, my goodness,” Hebert said.

“With your hip, and I know, just everything going on, it’s been a lot,” Napier said.

“Yeah, it has,” Hebert said. “So, I recently, I broke my hip in February, and it’s been a long process, just the recovery. You know, I’ve been having to work from home and, I don’t have all the benefits to work, so this is amazing. Oh, my gosh. Thank you so much.”

Hebert said she felt like she had to learn to walk again after surgery.

“There are some bills that I need to catch up on that this will help out with,” Hebert said. “And then, you know, food for my five kids because they just eat me out of house and home. So yeah, this is definitely going to help a lot.”
