Victims in deadly Redwood City liquor store fire identified

(KRON) — Two people who were found dead at the scene of a fire in a Redwood City liquor store last week have been identified. Firefighters with the Redwood City Fire Department responded at 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 3 to reports of an active fire at Avenue Liquor Store on Roosevelt Avenue.

Fire crews arrived to find the building fully engulfed in flames and began firefighting and rescue efforts. While firefighters were suppressing the blaze they located two deceased people inside the business.

Redwood City Police Department, fire department and San Mateo County Coroner’s officials have identified the deceased individual as:

  • Benigno Nuguid Pare, 56
  • Anil Kumar Sharma, 25

At this time, police say that investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire and events leading up to the incident. Redwood City PD says it remains unclear why the two individuals were inside the building when the fire broke out.

A joint investigation into the incident remains active.
