A suspect is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after residents of a Minneapolis apartment building used bladed weapons to ward the attacker off.
According to a Minneapolis Police Department spokesperson, the suspect entered an apartment Sunday evening on the 800 block of Olson Memorial Highway and began attacking a woman and a girl who lived in the unit. The girl grabbed a knife to defend herself and ran to a neighbor’s apartment.
The suspect chased the girl to the neighbor’s apartment and continued to attack her and the man who lived in the other unit. Police say the man used a hatchet to counter the assault.
By the time police arrived, the suspect was badly hurt. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The girl and woman were taken to the hospital for medical treatment and are expected to be OK.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the attack, including whether the assailant was armed or knew any of the victims.
