Office of the Chief Medical Examiner releases Jacqueline “Mimi” Torres-Garcia’s official cause of death

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH) — The Office of the Connecticut Chief Medical Examiner has released the findings of the autopsy of the 11-year-old girl whose body was found in a container in New Britain in October.

Connecticut Chief Medical Examiner James Gill confirmed with News 8 on Friday that Jacqueline “Mimi” Torres-Garcia’s death was determined to have been caused by fatal child abuse with starvation and that her death is determined to have been a homicide.

Mimi’s remains were found in a container behind an abandoned building on Clark Street in New Britain on the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 8. Police believe she had died around year before her remains were found.

Mimi’s mother, as well as her sister and boyfriend, are all facing charges in connection to her death. According to the arrest warrants, all three “admitted to intentional restraint, neglect, and cruelty.”
