LDS Church announces groundbreaking of Jacksonville Florida Temple, sites of two additional temples

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the groundbreaking date for the Jacksonville Florida Temple, as well as the sites of the Coeur d’Alene Idaho Temple and the Calabar Nigeria Temple.

Groundbreaking services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026. Elder Massimo De Feo, First Counselor in the United States Southeast Area Presidency, will preside at the event.

Attendance at the site will reportedly be by invitation.

The 29,000-square-foot temple, announced in Oct. 2023, will be built on a 6.6-acre site located at 3323 Loretto Road, Jacksonville.

Florida is home to almost 180,000 Latter-day Saints in around 280 congregations.

“This will be the fifth house of the Lord in the state,” the Church said in a press release. “Dedicated temples are in Fort Lauderdale and Tallahassee. The Orlando Florida Temple is currently under renovation, and construction of the Tampa Florida Temple began earlier this year.”

In addition to the groundbreaking announcement, the church announced the location of the Coeur d’Alene Idaho Temple as a 10.91-acre site at the corner of Hanley Avenue and Coeur Terre Boulevard in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

“Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 29,630 square feet, a meetinghouse and an accompanying ancillary building,” the release states. “More than 480,000 Latter-day Saints live in Idaho in nearly 1,300 congregations.”

Lastly, the location of the Calabar Nigeria Temple has been announced as a 7-acre site at Atekong Drive, Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria.

“Plans call for a 26,000-square-foot, single-story temple along with patron housing, arrival facilities, and a meetinghouse,” the release states. “Over 250,000 members in 840 congregations call Nigeria home. The country has one operating temple in Aba Nigeria.”
