Just two games into the season, the Minnesota Gophers women’s basketball team has lost one of its key contributors.
The program confirmed Monday that the injury Taylor Woodson suffered in Friday’s game against Manhattan will end her season.
It’s a brutal injury for Woodson, who also suffered a serious knee injury last season.
Now, the latest knee injury will rob the Minnetonka native and Hopkins High School alumna of her junior campaign.
“Taylor has worked incredibly hard to return from the left knee injury that she sustained last December,” Gophers head coach Dawn Plitzuweit said. “To be honest this is one of the hardest parts of collegiate athletics, to see someone who has worked so hard now face another significant injury; this time to her other knee. Taylor not only attacked her rehab with incredible consistency and effort, but she grew her knowledge of the game, her voice as a leader, and she worked diligently to grow her ability to become a consistent shooter throughout her recovery. I have no doubt that she will come back from this injury as an even more developed player and person and that all of her teammates, coaches and our medical staff will be there to support her every step of the way.”
Plitzuweit added that the Gophers hope the NCAA will grant Woodson a waiver to make this season a redshirt year due to the injury and allow her to still have three years of remaining eligibility.
Minnesota will be back in action at Williams Arena on Tuesday against Marquette.
