BOONE COUNTY, Ind. — Authorities have closed all lanes of Interstate 865 near the I-65 SB ramp in Boone County due to slick road conditions and multiple cars sliding off the road.
INDOT officials confirmed around 7:45 p.m. that the exit ramp of I-65 SB was shut down near the 129 mile marker exit to I-865 eastbound as multiple slide offs were reported. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office announced a few hours later that the I-65 exit ramp had reopened.
BCSO Deputy Tyler Moriarty told FOX59/CBS4 Sunday night that the bridge motorists use to merge from I-65 southbound to I-865 eastbound is a “sheet of ice.” Moriarty said this has led to multiple vehicles sliding into the guardrail, with one actually exiting the roadway.
As of this article’s publication, Moriarty said no serious injuries have been reported. Officials anticipate that I-865 EB will remain shut down late into Sunday night and possibly overnight into Monday morning as crews wait for INDOT salt trucks to arrive.
