Dog 'Skyler' reunited with owner; Harnett County puppy caught on video 'thrown' out SUV, woman arrested: Dunn Police
The incident was caught on video around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at 522 J.W. Edwards Lane in Dunn at the Dunn Animal Control Facility, according to a Thursday Dunn Police Department news release.
The woman who was charged in the case said she took the dog, which animal officials said was named “Skyler,” from Hope Lane in Harnett County, Dunn police and animal control officials said.
The dog was in good health, but Skyler was “tossed” out of an SUV, Dunn Animal Control officials said. Video from the Dunn Animal Control Facility showed the dog quickly exiting the SUV.
Amber Sparks, 43, told police that the dog was a stray and she was trying to move it from her neighborhood, Dunn police said.
“The subject drove the dog to the animal shelter, threw it out of the vehicle, and took off,” an arrest warrant said.
Sparks, who lives about 3 miles southwest of Erwin, was charged with animal abandonment in the incident, according to police.
On Saturday, Kelsey Eberle with Dunn Animal Control, told CBS 17 that their office was in contact with the dog’s owners.
By late in the afternoon, Skyler was reclaimed by her owners, Eberle said.
“She was very excited to see them and she is doing well,” Eberle said in an email to CBS 17.
Sparks was also charged with driving with a revoked license linked to impaired driving, the warrant said..
Sparks was released from the Harnett County Detention Center on a $2,500 unsecured bond, police said.
