California Highway Patrol officers responded to a traffic crash just after 9:30 a.m. on southbound Highway 99, north of Avenue 11.
A woman from Chowchilla was driving a maroon Chevrolet Suburban southbound on Highway 99 in the number one lane. Another woman was driving a Chevrolet Malibu ahead of her.
The woman driving the Malibu made a complete stop due to heavy traffic. CHP says that due to the speed of the Suburban, it collided with the Malibu.
After the impact, the suburban veered into the center median, overturned and landed on its wheels, partially on the metal guardrail.
CHP said that during the crash, a 52-year-old woman from Madera, the passenger in the Surburban, was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.
The driver of the Malibu and the additional passenger in the suburban were taken to the hospital. This is an ongoing investigation.
