A news release from the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office said that Zechariah Carl Stutts changed his plea from not guilty to guilty as charged of attempted armed robbery in Judge Donald Hathaway Jr.’s courtroom.
Stutts was charged with the February 9, 2023, incident in which he encountered the victim after leaving a Family Dollar store in the 9300 block of Linwood Avenue. As the victim walked to his car, Stutts brandished and pointed a firearm at the victim, demanding his keys. The victim sought safety by running towards the Family Dollar, but Stutts opened fire and struck the victim once in the backside, and fired several more rounds before leaving the scene. He was arrested by Shreveport police moments later.
When Stutts returns to Judge Hathaway’s courtroom on December 9, he faces the maximum sentence of 49.5 years’ hard labor without the possibility of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.
