Juvenile shot near Taylorsville High School, suspect still at-large
TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (ABC4) — A juvenile male has been shot near Taylorsville High School.
The Taylorsville Police Department said that the shooting happened near 5600 South and Redwood Road after a fight broke out.
The suspect, a juvenile, shot the victim with a handgun and then fled the scene. The suspect has not been located.
Law enforcement told ABC4 that the victim was shot in the leg. He has been transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
It is unknown if the juveniles involved were students at Taylorsville High School.
It is still an ongoing investigation. Witnesses are being interviewed.
A secure protocol was initiated for six schools the Granite School District at the direction of law enforcement. Soon after, the protocol was lifted. Officials say there is no threat to the public.
The Granite School District shared that Taylorsville High, Plymouth Elementary, and Hartvigsen School, Eisenhower Jr. High, Fremont Elementary, and Vista Elementary have been released from Secure Protocol.
There is a heavy police presence one block south of Taylorsville High School.
The school district shared that the secure protocols were “done out of an abundance of caution at the direction of law enforcement. To be clear, there is no direct threat to our students or schools. Schools are proceeding as usual inside the buildings and students are safe.”
Parents are asked to avoid coming to the school buildings as they will not be allowed inside at this time.
