Health Partners has requested the addition of 85 beds to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
According to a response from the Minnesota Department of Health, the state agency has 150 days to “issue a finding whether the proposed hospital is in the public interest.”
A spokesperson for HealthPartners stated that Regions currently operates at or near full capacity across its inpatient medical and surgical units, and that its current demand for care is greater than its capacity to provide the care.
Additionally, Regions is one of three hospitals in the state that is verified as a Level 1 trauma center. The aging population and overall population growth in the east metro are also expected to increase the demand for inpatient services.
HealthPartners also shared that Regions provided charity care for over 20,000 patients with inadequate health insurance or who couldn’t afford care in 2024.
