Driver led police on chase, hit spikes, then kept going prior to arrest, deputies say

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Cornelius man is accused of leading police on a chase around Clackamas County after refusing to pull over during a traffic stop prior to being arrested Friday, authorities said.

Gerardo Calixtro-Tellez, 35, is accused of reckless driving and other charges. He allegedly failed to stop for law enforcement in a Wilsonville parking lot at 8255 SW Wilsonville Rd, then headed northbound on I-5, where Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office deputies followed him.

“Minutes later, a responding unit successfully deployed spike strips on the truck near SW Nyberg St. in Tualatin. The driver continued down SW Borland Road before getting stuck in traffic,” the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. “He then drove down SW 65th Ave. toward SW Elligsen Rd. after losing both driver-side tires from running over the spike strips.”

After continuing on Wilsonville Road and Southwest Town Center Loop, passing Wilsonville High School, the driver traveled onto Stafford Road, law enforcement officials said. During the chase, Wilsonville High School, Boeckman Creek Primary School and Riverside High School briefly went into secure status as a precaution.

“Deputies used a PIT maneuver and deployed additional spike strips on the truck’s passenger side,” the sheriff’s office said. “The driver entered I-205, fled from his vehicle, and was detained by responding units at approximately 12:28 p.m.”

Calixtro-Tellez faces charges that include reckless endangering, attempting to elude a police officer, reckless driving and two outstanding warrants.
