Weekend Weather: Texas weather shows out with ‘feels like’ summer to winter change

BIG COUNTRY, TEXAS (KTAB/KRBC) – Heading into this weekend, we’re expecting early summer and winter all within two days of each other, and that pretty much sums up Texas weather.

For Saturday, we’re expecting an arctic front to make its appearance in town as early as 2 p.m., but it’s not enough to keep our temperatures down for the day as we’re expecting a high of 84 degrees. Winds will be breezy as the front moves in, with gusts up to 25 mph. Heading into the overnight hours, we’ll see temperatures drop slightly, but this will not be our coldest evening of the weekend.

For Sunday, after the cooler air rushes in, temperatures will struggle to climb as north winds continue to gust up to 30 mph throughout the day. Temperatures will peak around 59 degrees.

Overnight Sunday is when we’ll see things truly chill. Temperatures in town are expected to dip into the 30s, with a forecast low of 33 degrees, but in rural or low-lying areas, this could fall even further.

There is no freeze watch or warning out at this time for almost all of the Big Country, but there is a possibility for one to be issued as we get closer. There is, however, a freeze watch in effect for Knox County due to below-freezing temperatures expected overnight Sunday into Monday morning. Up north, we’re expecting temperatures to fall into the 20s, making winter weather safety critical.

If we see below-freezing temperatures in the Key City, we’ll be right around the average time we typically experience our first freeze, which is on November 13. Last year, we saw our first freeze after Thanksgiving, on November 29.
