ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — City leaders gathered to celebrate the opening of Nu-State Apartments, a newly renovated building located at the corner of Church and West State Streets in downtown Rockford.

The building, purchased by Urban Equity Properties in 2018, features 35 luxury apartments on its upper floors and four retail spaces on the ground level, including a grocery store. The renovation aims to revitalize the area by providing modern living spaces and retail options.

“The fact that it is mid-century design, I think it’s going to pick up quite a few people, it already has,” said Justin Fern, founder and CEO of Urban Equity Properties. “There aren’t any other properties like this in downtown. Every time we do a new building or project, we try to keep the design different and unique and this one is definitely unique. So, I think there’s excitement about that.”

Rent for the luxury apartments ranges from $1,360 to $1,800 per month, reflecting the high demand for unique living spaces in the downtown area.
