PARK RIDGE, Ill. — Students and teachers at a suburban school district were instructed to remain inside throughout the day on Friday after reports of ICE agents in the area.

Park Ridge-Nile School District 64 Superintendent Dr. Ben Collins said in a statement on Friday that he was aware of reports regarding ICE agents in Park Ridge neighborhoods near some of the district’s schools.

According to Collins, as a precaution, the district’s students and teachers are being kept inside their respective school buildings during recess, PE and lunch.

“Law enforcement is not allowed to enter a school without a warrant or legal order. We will continue to monitor this situation throughout the day,” Collins said.

It is currently unclear if agents have made any arrests in the area or what may have brought them to the suburb.

Officials do not provide regular updates on their ongoing immigration enforcement operation and it is unknown if they are targeting any specific individuals.

WGN has reached out to the Department of Homeland Security for details but has yet to hear back.
