Local man charged after allegedly using Bing to find child porn

John Christopher McGraw | Bonneville County Jail

IDAHO FALLS — A 46-year-old Idaho Falls man was arrested by Idaho’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force after an investigation of cybertips about a local man uploading child pornography to Bing.

John Christopher McGraw was charged with 10 felony counts of possessing child sexual abuse materials, with each count carrying a potential of up to 10 years in prison. If he is found guilty, he faces up to 100 years in prison.

According to court documents, a detective with the ICAC task force was assigned to investigate four cybertips from Microsoft that showed several images containing child porn had been uploaded to Bing’s visual search.

This visual search allows users to search for related images, and according to the documents, nine of the images that were used were considered child sexual abuse material. Other images were not classified as pornography.

A subpoena was sent to T-Mobile for two Internet Protocol (IP) addresses that were found. The Internet Service Provider returned the subpoena with an address in Idaho Falls and McGraw’s name.

A search warrant was obtained for the residence and executed on Nov. 5. McGraw was taken to the Idaho Falls Police Complex for an interview.

The document states that during the interview, McGraw told the detective that he had been searching for pictures of naked girls between 14 and 20 years of age.

“He said that he liked their petite body types,” the document states.

It goes on to state that McGraw said he saved the best images, which yielded the best results.

When asked the percentage of the pornography he was consuming was child porn, McGraw said it was about 10%. He was asked if he had masturbated to child porn, and he said he did.

According to the complaint, the images of the alleged child porn show girls between the ages of 5 and 12.

McGraw is scheduled to appear before Magistrate Judge Michael Kirkham for a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. on Nov. 26.

Though McGraw has been charged with these crimes, it does not necessarily mean he committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
