Friday marks the final day of preparations for hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans for the state’s deer hunting firearm opener.
Saturday marks the first day of the season, allowing Minnesota hunters to use guns to hunt deer, and the Minnesota DNR expects a large turnout. The DNR estimates more than 200,000 licenses have been sold so far and has highlighted the positive impact hunters have on local communities’ economy during the deer hunting season.
“We have all these amazing rural communities that really rely on this time of year to support the economy,” Jared Mazurek, the MN Deer Hunter Association President, said. “So if you are heading north to deer camp or south to deer camp, I would challenge you to wait until you get to the community that you are recreating in to purchase your groceries, purchase your supplies, your ammo, whatever that might be.”
The DNR expects the hunting season to be a productive one, following two mild winters in Minnesota. However, hunters should pack their gloves before heading out on Saturday.
Winter-like weather is expected, with areas of Minnesota expecting to see rain and even some snow.
