DeSoto school board votes to replace president

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The DeSoto County School board voted Thursday to name Jerald Wheeler as school board president, replacing embattled member Michele Henley.

Henley, who still is listed as the board president Thursday night, has been under fire since writing a letter of support in a court case against former coach Lindsey Whiteside.

Earlier this month, Whiteside was sentenced to three years of house arrest after pleading guilty to state charges of sexual battery of a minor. She now also faces federal charges.

Henley has resisted calls from the public and fellow board members to resign over that letter.

All seven board members present voted in favor of Wheeler’s appointment.
