City of Noblesville hosting food drive as government shutdown continues
According to a news release from the city of Noblesville, city officials will collect non-perishable food items at the lobby of Noblesville City Hall, located at 16 South 10th Street. This is expected to lead into the Noblesville Fire Department’s 48th annual Food and Toy Drive.
According to previous reports, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits have been impacted by the ongoing government shutdown.
Food will be collected between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. starting Friday. The drive will last through Nov. 13. The release said the food will be donated to the White River Christian Church’s food pantry and the following items are needed:
“In times of uncertainty with the government shutdown, the city of Noblesville will continue to give back and help our neighbors, along with dedicated nonprofits and faith groups working constantly to address food insecurity,” Noblesville Mayor Chris Jensen said in the release. “Local communities do not have the luxury of shutting down, and we also won’t turn our back on our most vulnerable. I encourage anyone who is able to help to consider dropping off food to City Hall. Noblesville is glad to play a small part in amplifying and supplementing efforts in this critical time of need.”
As part of its annual Food and Toy Drive, the Noblesville Fire Department will accept canned goods, non-perishable food items, as well as new, unwrapped toys starting on Monday. Donations can be dropped off at city hall or at any of the Noblesville fire stations through Dec. 5.
