INDIANAPOLIS — Dozens of employees with the Indiana Department of Health are expected to be furloughed if the government shutdown remains in effect.

Exactly 48 state employees have been notified that they may be furloughed effective Sunday, Nov. 9, according to a media spokesperson from the IDOH.

According to a report from the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the activities prohibited during the government shutdown include the following:

  • Standard Surveys
  • Certain Revisit Surveys
  • Initial Surveys
  • Initial Certification
  • Certain Complaint Investigations
  • Minimum Data Set or OASIS
  • Informal Dispute Resolutions
  • Trainings on Quality Safety and Education Portal and the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test
  • Processing of Certification Actions
  • New CMP-Funded Improvement Projects

What will continue are complaint investigations that allege immediate harm as well as certain federal enforcement actions that are necessary to protect life and safety.

Indiana is expected to maintain infrastructure that supports complaint investigations and enforcement for cases that allege “immediate jeopardy” or “actual harm to individuals.”

This is a developing story. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
