Not a glass Cannon: MPAC senior dog refuses to break
That is particularly egregious during Senior Pet Adoption Month.
If you want a calm dog who is relaxed and not desperate for attention, Cannon is perfect for you, but that was not always the case.
Cannon and his sister lived with their owner in an assisted living community until the owner was no longer able to care for them.
When animal control staff from the Marshall Pet Adoption Center (MPAC) picked them up, they contacted the owner’s family.
Unfortunately for Cannon, they took his sister, but said they were unable to adopt a child of Cannon’s size and age.
Cannon seemed difficult when he first arrived at MPAC. He would growl whenever he was touched and did not want anyone near his paws.
It was only when the staff sent him to the vet that they discovered the issue.
Cannon’s fur was severely matted all the way down to his skin.
To make matters worse, his nails were so overgrown that they were embedded in his paws.
With that combination of factors, Cannon had to be in near constant pain.
After a shave and having his nails clipped, he went from a grumpy old man to a personable boy.
He plays well with other dogs, despite his preference to do his own thing most of the time.
At eight years old, he is calm and sweet when he is not stressed, and considering his past, he is certainly not a glass cannon.
