IBJ: Buc-ee’s eyeing Johnson County for first Indiana location

(WXIN/WTTV) — At long last, Buc-ee’s fans in central Indiana can rejoice!

The cult-favorite gas station and convenience store known for its gigantic locations is reportedly in “late-stage discussions” to open “at least one” travel center in central Indiana, according to the Indianapolis Business Journal. The IBJ was the first to break the news on Thursday afternoon.

The specific location: Greenwood in Johnson County.

The Texas-based company is reportedly nearing a deal to buy a 28-acre plot of land off E. Worthsville Road and Interstate 65 in Greenwood, as well as portions of adjacent properties. Three different sources confirmed the news to the IBJ this week, the outlet reports.

The even better news? This may be the first of several central Indiana locations.

Additional IBJ sources reported that Buc-ee’s is also eyeing an “undisclosed area” in Boone County to potentially open a second location as well. If this were to happen, it would be the closest of any two Buc-ee’s locations outside of Texas – sitting less than 50 miles apart.

IBJ reports that each Buc-ee’s source spoke anonymously because they were not yet authorized to publicly speak on the news.

While specifics are still scarce, it is assumed that Buc-ee’s would be opening a massive, 24/7 convenience store and gas station with dozens of pumps and ample parking for both passenger and commercial vehicles. These are elements of the company’s other 54 locations across the U.S.

“One source told IBJ Buc-ees has an agreement in principle with the city of Greenwood as well as the owners of the neighboring parcels,” the IBJ wrote. “Another source described the deal as being ‘quite close’ to the finish line.”

IBJ sources said that Buc-ee’s officials have signed a letter of intent to buy the Greenwood land, but that the company is still working on acquisition plans to buy other parts of neighboring properties necessary for their large project infrastructure.

The company is reportedly not expected to close on the purchase or make an announcement until sometime in 2026, the IBJ reports. To read the Indianapolis Business Journal’s full report, click here.
