Gov. Kay Ivey to dedicate new military gallery in Alabama Department of Archives and History

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WRBL) — Governor Kay Ivey will be dedicating the new “Alabama Military Stories” gallery in the Alabama Department of Archives and History at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday.

“Alabama Military Stories” is part of an extensive capital project to update and enhance the offerings of the state history museum for visitors of all ages.

The new gallery uses artifacts, images, and videos to showcase Alabama veterans. These honorary veterans’ stories will highlight major conflicts, specifically the past 100 years, and are centered around the themes of service, community, and legacy that are reflected throughout.

A new children’s gallery is also included in the project, along with updates to Alabama Voices, and a new First Peoples of Alabama gallery set to open in 2026.

Planning for the project began in 2022, while museum renovations began in November 2024.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. CST on Thursday at the Alabama Department of Archives and History.

The new “Alabama Military Stories” gallery will be officially open to the public on Friday.
